Matt's work elicits such a powerful emotional response and a very specific mood of wonderment and even nostalgia. His primary goal for the site was capturing that same mood and establishing a marketing presence online to show off his work.
We decided to capture the overall tone present in his work by incorporating subdued background images of the landscapes that serve as inspiration for much of his work.
The site aesthetic is heavily inspired by the landscape of the floodplains along the Mississippi river that served as a backdrop to Matt's childhood and greatly influenced his philosophies on life and art. By utilizing subdued photographs of these areas, we were able to provide more context to his art and enhance the stories that he is trying to tell.
Instead of designing any kind of symbol or logotype to masthead Matt's site, we opted to reproduce his own signature, placing it front and center as a clear statement, "This is who I am, and this is the work that I've created with my own hands."
Matt's a good friend of ours, and we're huge fans of his work. We had a great experience working with him on the site, and we're pumped to collaborate with him again in the future.
